Shannon Snapp

Welcome.

I’m Shannon Snapp (she/her). I’m an Associate Professor in Psychology at California State University, Monterey Bay.

My goals are to improve the health and well-being of adolescents and young adults and to help young people feel healthy, safe, and secure in an ever changing world.

My research focuses on reducing (mental) health and educational disparities through supportive relationships and educational/health practices and policies. I use an intersectional lens to study the lives of sexual and gender minority youth.

I strive to do asset-based, justice-driven, critically-conscious research that has the potential to create social change and reduce inequality.

My teaching focuses on love, relationships, and social justice. I currently teach a course I developed called How to Love: The Art and Science of Love and Intimacy. I also teach yoga, meditation, and reiki to promote wellness and peace.

To learn more about my teaching/writing on love, please watch my TEDx talk called “To Suffer Less, We Need Perfect Love” held at California State University, Monterey Bay.
